Pond - in May

Pond

It's late May and we've had our first (and hopefully not last!) taste of summer. The plants around the pond are now growing like billy-o and the filter box has disappeared behind a mass of grass and fern. With this lush growth comes the annual problem of Thomas deciding that it makes a nice place to sleep - squashing the grass in the process. An ultrasonic cat scarer is now keeping guard...

The plant growth outside the pond is matched by that in the water; the lily now has leaves on the surface with a flower on the way up, and the elodea (Canadian pond weed) replanted in March is now thick and bushy.

On the maintenance side, pump cleaning is down to every 2-3 weeks and a bag of barley straw seems to be keeping the silk weed under control.
